TS 4 Social, Ethical, and Human Issues: The competent teacher will apply concepts and skills in making decisions concerning the social, ethical, and human issues related to computing and technology. The competent teacher will understand the changes in information technologies, their effects on workplace and society, their potential to address life-long learning and workplace needs, and the consequences of misuse.
For this technology standard I chose a paper that I wrote on Cyber bullying in today’s society and how it affects the classroom. I chose this artifact because it clearly shows that I understand the importance of technology to our society, but also that I know that it can have ill effects as well as a result of misuse. This paper is a perfect demonstration for this standard because it clearly shows that I understand the unique decisions to be made in regards to school wide protocol as stated in the performance indicator 4C wherein the competent teacher “describes strategies for facilitating consideration of ethical, legal, and human issues involving school purchasing and policy decisions.” Also this paper demonstrates the performance indicator 4B “describes the historical development and important trends affecting the evolution of technology and its probable future roles in society,” because it shows that I understand that technology will continue to be a large part of our society.
I believe that this artifact shows my development as a teacher because after the doing the research for this paper it made me realize just how dangerous that technology can be for students, or anyone for that matter. It really made me think about the ways that I was going to use technology in my classroom and about how I as a teacher could possibly become more proactive in keeping my students safe.
