Basic Computer/Technology Operations & Concepts
The competent teacher will use computer systems to run software; to access, generate, and manipulate data; and to publish results. He or she will also evaluate performance of hardware and software components of computer systems and apply basic trouble-shooting strategies as needed.
Knowledge Indicator - The competent teacher

Performance Indicators - The competent teacher:
1B. operates a multi-media computer system with related peripheral devices to successfully install and use a variety of software packages.
1C. uses appropriate terminology related to computers and technology in written and oral communications.
1D. describes and implements basic troubleshooting techniques for multi-media computer systems with related peripheral devices.

Artifact: Inspiration Graphic Organizer
TS 1. Basic Computer/Technology Operations & Concepts: The competent teacher will use computer systems to run software; to access, generate, and manipulate data; and to publish results. He or she will also evaluate performance of hardware and software components of computer systems and apply basic trouble-shooting strategies as needed.
Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of that standard—put the standard into your own words.
This standard to me means that teachers should be able to use computer software to help bolster education in the classroom. In order to support education in the classroom, the competent teacher in this day and age needs to be fluent in technology. Teachers also need to be able to evaluate technological systems to decide whether or not it is an effective learning tool for students, and given that what can go wrong will, teachers need to have a process for fixing unforeseen problems.
Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the standard.
I believe that this artifact that I chose, an Inspiration made graphic organizer, shows that I fully understand this standard because I had to use the software Inspiration in order to create this web organizer. Not only did I have to use the software, but I had to play with it and learn how to use it before I could properly create my web map. The only knowledge indicator for this standard is 1A, which indicates that the competent teacher “understands how to run computer software; access, generate and manipulate data; and publish results.” For this assignment, I had to run the software, generate the data I used to put into the web map, manipulate the placements of the shapes and then publish the results onto a website so that it could be graded by my professor. Having done all of these things, I believe I more than adequately completed this standard.
If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.
I think that my teaching will be affected by this assignment because I believe that having done this; I will use more of these in my classroom in the future. Inspiration is an easy way to make these kinds of graphic organizers and there is a lot more that I could do with them as well. I could use an organizer like this to begin a lesson or unit, or I could have the kids make their own, and have a lesson on how to use the program. I already use a lot of technology in the classroom, but I feel like I will try to incorporate this new software into my future classroom after having done this assignment, and used this software.
Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.
I feel more prepared to teach and learn in a diverse society because of my fluency with technology. I know how to use technology to research something, to find useful information on a topic, to communicate effectively, and to make things to support learning for all students. Students often get very excited about using technology in their every day lessons, and you can sometimes make the students who don’t like school start enjoying coming to class. Diversity can come in a range of things, and part of diversifying the classroom, is through the integration of technology. I feel very comfortable integrating this kind of diversity into the classroom.
