Reflection
TS 3 Application of Technology in Instruction: The competent teacher will apply learning technologies that support instruction in his or her grade level and subject areas. He or she must plan and deliver instruction units that integrate a variety of software, applications, and learning tools. Lessons developed must reflect effective grouping and assessment strategies for diverse populations.
The artifact that I chose to satisfy this technology standard is this lesson plan that I created with a group of peers for one of my professional development classes. The lesson features a possible end of term project after a good amount of time spent learning about the Revolutionary War. The project was meant to use the web program Facebook, to complete a personal profile page for a predominant figure in the Revolutionary War after researching them thoroughly. The artifact was chosen because of how it incorporates technology into the learning process in the classroom.
This artifact is an appropriate representation of this technology standard because it implements the use of the internet into the class, as stated in the performance indicator 3D, “designs, implements, and assesses student learning activities that integrate computers/technology for a variety of student grouping strategies and for diverse student populations.” Also because the lesson plan is designed for a practical and ethical use of a technology that students may use every day, which is summarized in indictor 3F of the standard, “designs student learning activities that foster equitable, ethical, and legal use of technology by students.”
I believe that this artifact shows my growth and development as an educator because formulating this lesson plan really made me see just how useful technology in the classroom could be, and how much more fun students would have using it than just the regular run of the mill posters. This project gave me a new outlook on the kinds of projects that are open to me to use in my classroom.
